Project Management Training

You might prefer to have your own people manage your projects, and we can help you here too.

The reality is that there is a very limited amount of formal training available in the project management arena, and most of what there is revolves around very formal methodologies like Prince. In our view, these formal methods are fine for large projects that span several years, or where the availability of resources is not an issue - unfortunately, most IT projects require shorter bursts of very intensive activity, usually undertaken by people who barely have enough time to do their day job, never mind managing a high pressure project at the same time. For these projects, you need a practical approach.

We run courses entitled 'Project Management in the real world', aimed at capturing the essential spirit and discipline of the formal methods, but with the emphasis on project success rather than ensuring the paperwork is correct. When a project goes off the rails, the formally trained project manager fills in an exception report and waits for a response: the 'real world' project manager establishes what needs to be done to get back on track, and gets on with it.

If your staff could benefit from this kind of approach, contact us for more details. Courses can be adapted to suit your requirements, and can be run over 1, 2 or 3 days, on or off site.
